I asked her on March 31st if she would go out with me and the crazy girl said yes. She then began to plan a trip to Mobile, Alabama to meet me in person for the first time. She had planed to come in June of 2002, but had to postpone due to an injury she received at work. She worked in a fabric store and a pattern cabinet, which is like a huge filing cabinet, fell on her knee. The Lord opened up a new date, August 2002, which proved to be the perfect time. Her Mom had some vacation time, that she did not know she had, and was able to come with Christina.
My friend Mark took me to the bus station to meet them. It was an exciting day, as I anticipated meeting this awesome girl that the Lord brought into my life. When we got to the bus station we were informed that the bus was a little late, which did not help to settle my nervse as we waited. The bus finally arrived and this beautiful girl walked through the doors. There she was 5' ft tall, 98 pounds with brownish blonde hair and a pair of sunglasses on. She was a very attractive young lady.
I teased her and said that she looked like Mrs. Hollywood, which helped to break the ice.. We got into the van and headed toward their hotel to drop their luggage off. When we got into the van I almost had to pinch myself to make sure I was not dreaming. "Yup, this is really happening", I assured myself. She was the most attractive girl I had ever seen. She gave me the souvenir she bought for me while on her senior trip to Hawaii, a Hawaiian picture frame. She tried to hand it to me, but she did not realize that I could not left my arms up to grab it and I told her to hang on to it for me.
We finally arrived at the Econo Lodge in Tillmans Corner. We waited in the van as they checked in, dropped their luggage
off and freshened up a bit and then we headed toward my house, where my mom had spaghetti and yeast rolls waiting for us.After dinner Christina and I went for a walk outside to get used to seeing each other in person and not through a little private message box or a web cam. She looked extremely exhausted from the fifteen hour bus ride. We went back inside and talked with my mom for a while and then it was time for them to head back to their Hotel for the night. A little while after they left, I drove up to the church and prayed: "Lord, if you want me to marry this girl, then you have to make it happen." Later on my wife told me that she had prayed the same prayer on the bus trip here.
The next day Christina and I went down to my grandparent's house, they lived through a field and down the hill behind us.
After she met Christina and talked to us awhile, she offered to give us the money to buy an engagement ring (if we were really serious about each other) Christina and I talked about it on the way back home and we both felt like it was God's will for our lives. After a conversation with my Pastor I was ready to ask her to marry me. I knew that it was customary to ask the young ladies' father for his permission, but he was miles away. I decided to ask her Mother about it, and she said that whatever made Christina happy, would make her happy and she would talk to Christina's dad when they returned home.
We went back down to my grand-mother's house later that week and I told the Lord that if he wanted us to get married, then he would have to bring the subject up. Later a few minutes, my grandmother asked us what we had decided and we told her that we wanted to be together for the rest of our lives, and she handed us the money for the engagement ring. On the way back to my house, I stopped and formally asked Christina to marry me and Of course she said yes.
This is a picture of my wife Christy and I before we were married, taken in June 2003 at a surprise birthday party that my wife, youth group, friends and sister threw for me. The Lord caused our paths to cross around the first of the year 2002 and our lives have been changed forever. I was just being faithful on Paltalk in the teen category looking for teens to minister to. Then before I know it I was getting a private message from Carebear, which is her Paltalk name. After I found out her age and that she was a Christian, I still played a little hard to get. I mean, I wasn't looking for a girlfriend, let alone a wife. I was just trying to serve the Lord and win some teens to Christ. Finally I gave it a chance and we started talking more and getting to know each other. We talked on the phone for a few hours and found out we had a lot in common. Then I asked her If she would go out with me and she said she would have to pray about it. After much praying from the both of us.
